Canvas 03:17
Roam along the concrete for hours on end You should see what you find when you slip through the cracks We are but common men trying to make the most of these hands Against that constant shift that knows how to take its toll Took its toll on me So why not shape the sky in our own image? We are born to this canvas, and it is what you make it And these eyes my trick the stomach, but they still want more Along the way, Found reasons to fill these lungs, And gave in to them Sometimes we laughed until it hurt, Gave up pieces of ourselves, But a part of me was right at home What kind of footnote do you wanna leave? Are you ready to fight the things that you can't see? Cause all those things you thought You kept at arms length have their way Of breaking you at your spirit, And watching you bleed That constant shift Knows how to take its toll So why not shape the skies In an image of your own? We were born to the canvas, and these eyes are bored Along the way, Found reasons to fill these lungs, And gave in to them Sometimes we laughed until it hurt, Gave up pieces of ourselves, But a part of me was right at home Answered, "I am here." Life exists, and identity, And it does go on And I contribute this verse Along the way, Found reasons to fill these lungs, And gave in to them Sometimes we laughed until it hurt, Gave up pieces of ourselves, But a part of me was right at home

One day I'll explain everything I won't know where to start How should I begin? Will you ever know the worst of me, and learn to love the rest? Well, till then, just see me for what I am I can't make up for lost time Just trying to find my own steps to follow Kept tripping over the little things While the years bled into the next I can't make up for lost time Must've got caught in the moment But you're the roots where I plant my feet When every war I wage in your name I hope that one day This will be more than what the words said Till then I'll smile and bear it Till then I'll lay awake Till then I'll lay awake Try to fit in the photographs Oh, how real they move for me I can't make up for lost time Just trying to find my own steps to follow Kept tripping over the little things While the years bled into the next I can't make up for lost time Must've got caught in the moment But you're the roots where I plant my feet When every war I wage in your name I can't make up for lost time I can't make up for lost time

They should have sent a poet Better grasp at the concept Cause I fear my own exceeds my reach or maybe only the nerve Well, let's find out the hard way if there's really such beauty In the belly of the beast Will I notice it in front of me? When the clock doesn't move You really take in all the sights at once Besides, we may never be here again May never be here again It can get so hard at times To wear your own skin When you don't know what it means anymore But then there are nights like these But then there are nights like these Where breaking in those wounds doesn’t seem all that impossible But what do I know? Stopped counting the days long before Cause every time the world turns or even moves an inch Feels like it changes me But could it say the same? Couldn’t say the same When the clock doesn't move, You really take in all the sights at once Besides, we may never be here again May never be here again And no one ever stops to tell you When the hands started to move again But nights like these are something eloquent But nights like these are too far in between We're left learning our way across a knifes edge. Or are we just hanging there? Well at least I found the proof We are all but stories But can be as tall as the giants in them And til it comes around again Bare your teeth at me I bare my own, and I'm playing for keeps Bare your teeth at me I bare my own, and I'm playing for keeps Let's find out the hard way (Where will I go) If I keep holding on (When I leave here?) Well, like a well-rusted chain, will I break (But I know) Or will I hold strong? (That I'll hold onto this)

There isn't a time or place for how quickly life can change As I go on pretending like I don't know my own strength But I know all too well Voice shot, hood pulled over my head Taking in that deep breath, waiting for the next thing to take it away Or someone to breathe in and out with me Will this be all I ever truly know? Knuckles cracked and bruised From beating at closed doors Now where am I supposed to go When its more like walking on nails Than a quick walk home? As a warm blur passes me by I've gotten to know the monsters chasing me They've become like old friends Or maybe shadows playing their parts so well But I gave it all I had in that last swing as I stumbled through the yard On the walk home, did I give it all I had? But I've been wrong before Yeah, I've been wrong before Yeah, I've been wrong before Yeah, I've been wrong before
